Individual and household incomes

Income levels for individuals in Ashburton(S) are evenly distributed across the population, apart from those earning more than $1600 per week. In 2006 a large number of employees were earning in the $1600 - 1999 and $2000 or more income brackets.

The median weekly income across industries in Ashburton(S) shows the highest incomes being earnt in the mining, construction and wholesale trade industries. The wholesale trade industry consists of residents employed in basic material wholesaling and machinery and motor vehicle wholesaling.

The high median weekly income for the information, media and telecommunications industry is due to the very small number of employees in this sector, and may not be a reliable representation of the incomes for this industry.

In Ashburton(S) the average and median income for wage and salary earners rose between 2000-01 and 2005-06. The largest increase was seen between 2004-05 and 2005-06 with an increase in the Average Income of $5,574 and an increase of $3,533 in the Median Income.
