Registered passenger and light commercial vehicles in Port Hedland(T) marginally increased between 2001 and 2008, with the number of passenger vehicles increasing at a faster rate.

 

 

  

Rigid truck registrations increased in Port Hedland(T) between 2001 and 2008, particularly from 2005. Articulated trucks remained steady over the same period.

The number of vehicles in Port Hedland(T) as a proportion of vehicles to people (ERP - aged 17 and above) remained fairly stable between 2001 and 2003 for all vehicle types, after which the number of vehicles per 100 people increased until 2007. Fluctuations in the rate relate directly to the estimate of resident population, with the numbers of vehicles registered growing in a steady pattern over the same period.

In 2009 the Great Northern Hwy south of North West Coastal Hwy had a greater proportion of heavy vehicles and long vehicles and road trains compared to other traffic count locations in Port Hedland(T). The proportion of heavy vehicles, and long vehicles & road trains generally dropped towards the south end of Great Northern Hwy.
