Rental properties as a proportion of all properties

The largest providers of rental accommodation between 1996 and 2006 fell into the other landlord category, comprised of employers (government and non-government) and residential parks (caravan parks and marinas). This category of rental accommodation more than doubled between 2001 and 2006.

Number of households receiving employer based housing subsidies

Ashburton(S) is the only Shire in the Pilbara where the number of government houses being rented increased between 2001 and 2006. There was also a large increase in the number of non-government employer provided rental dwellings; the largest proportional increase across all Shires in the Pilbara during this period.
Proportion of privately owned properties

The proportion of owner occupied dwellings in Ashburton(S) showed a significant fall from 61.1% of all occupied private dwellings in 1996 to 23.2% in 2006.
Average number of occupants per household
The average household size in Ashburton(S) declined slowly over the ten years to 2006, from 3.1 persons in 1996 to 2.9 in 2001 and 2.8 in 2006.
