House and unit prices

‘Housing & Land Snapshot’ reports are produced quarterly by the Pilbara Development Commission. The reports detail figures on the residential rental market, private purchase market and government housing for the major centres of Karratha, Port & South Hedland and Newman. Current and past copies of the report are available for download on the Commission’s website www.pdc.wa.gov.au.

Housing affordability

Overall, mortgage costs in Ashburton(S) were generally higher than rent paid by persons in the same income bracket in 2006. The main point of interest is the $1000-$1199 bracket which counters this trend, with rent surpassing mortgage costs.

 Average housing rental costs

Looking at real estate agent and private rentals separately provides a view of the rental costs in each area without the employer sponsored rentals etc. skewing the figures.
