Student Retention Rates

The retention rate for Yr 8 is always 100% for all years because it is the base year for retention. In some years the retention rate exceeds 100% because there was a net increase in the number of students for that year.

For Yr 9, 10 & 11, retention rates generally increased from 2003 to 2007 showing an increase in participation at school; however Yr 12 shows a gradual decrease between 2003 and 2006. In 2008, Yr 11 & 12 showed an encouraging increase in retention. The retention rates in 2007 for Yrs 10, 11 & 12 were significantly higher than they were for previous years as a result of education reforms which raised the school leaving age to 17.

Student/Teacher Ratio

The student teacher ratio in Ashburton(S) dropped steadily from 1999 to 2008. This is due to the general decline in the number of students across the same period. This trend is apparent across the Pilbara region.

As with most of the Pilbara, the number of students in Ashburton(S) has been steadily declining. The number of Indigenous students has fluctuated over this time, although it has shown a distinct gap in the male to female ratio over the ten years to 2008.
