Diversity of small business in comparison to larger regional centres

In 2007 Geraldton(C) had a greater proportion of businesses in construction (18.2%) and finance and insurance (7.6%). In Ashburton(S) 12% of businesses were in the construction industry, and 1.3% in finance and insurance.

Kalgoorlie/Boulder(C) in 2007 also had a higher proportion of businesses in construction (18.1%), but a lower proportion of businesses in culture and recreation (1.8%) in comparison to Ashburton(S) (2.7%).

n.b. Small business classifications include all businesses with employment size of 19 and under, and employment size of 20-49 in manufacturing.
