Employment Levels by Industry

 

 

Port Hedland(T) employment levels in the mining industry were at their highest point in the 2001 Census period and maintained the largest proportion of employment across all industries in all Census periods from 1996 to 2006. Conversely, the construction industry was at its lowest point in the 2001 Census, however it still maintained the second largest proportion of employment across all industries in all Census periods from 1996 to 2006.

 

Industries in Port Hedland(T) such as manufacturing, retail trade, professional, scientific & technical services and public administration & safety, had spikes in employment levels during the 2001 Census period. However, in the 2006 Census period these industries reverted back to similar employment levels as seen in 1996.

Employment Levels by Occupation

 

 

In Port Hedland(T), over the ten year period to 2006, technicians and trade workers were the largest occupational group. Interestingly, the number of machinery operators and drivers fell consistently over the same period, a direct contrast to the other local government areas within the Pilbara which have all shown increases in 2006.
