Unemployment and participation rates for ages 15 – 19 years

Port Hedland(T) displayed a consistently higher youth unemployment rate than any other region across the Pilbara during the ten years to 2006. While participation rates for Port Hedland(T) were on a par with the other shires, this level dropped significantly below those of the other shires to be 43.7% in 2006.

While unemployment rates are almost consistently at higher levels in Port Hedland(T) than all other shires across the Pilbara, the Port Hedland(T) unemployment rates fell steadily from 1996 to 2006. The participation rate dropped sharply from 2001 to 2006.
