Proportion of registered boats per household

There was a significant increase in the number of registered recreational boats in Port Hedland(T) between 1996 and 2008, with regular growth in the numbers registered for all years except 2000.

The increase between 1996 and 2008 was almost exclusively in the boat size range up to 7.5m long, which are considered to be of a trailer towing size. The number of larger boats (requiring moorings) registered in the area have shown only moderate increases between 2002 to 2007, due in part to no marinas for permanent moorings in the region.

When looking at the number of registered boats in relation to the size of the population, Port Hedland(T) in 2008 had over 78 recreational boats registered in the area for every one thousand people, a significant increase from the 57 registered in 2004.
