The Great Southern covers 39,000 square kilometres with 11 local government areas, and is home to more than 58,800 people. It includes some of Western Australia's most attractive and productive land and offers a wealth of opportunity.

Spotlight on the Great Southern

The Great Southern Development Commission (GSDC) is a Western Australian Government agency, under the Minister for Regional Development and Lands. The GSDC's role is to coordinate and promote the economic development of the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Its vision is for the sustainable development of the region's economy in harmony with its unique heritage and natural environment. For further information, please visit the GSDC website.

Spotlight on the Great Southern is part of a series of community indicator frameworks being developed in partnership between the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the nine Western Australian Regional Development Commissions, and the WA Department of Regional Development and Lands. The aim of the Spotlight Project is to bring together selected statistical information about each region, from a wide variety of sources, to provide a practical framework for use in regional strategic management and policy development.
