Cost of road maintenance and construction

Approximately $6,098,000 was spent on flood damage, opening and reinstatement works for East Pilbara(S) in 2001-02.  The four years following 2003-04 has showed gradually increases in the costs for maintenance and construction. East Pilbara(S) has had the highest costs for any region in the Pilbara over the seven years to 2007-08, due in part to the size of the shire.

Number of road closures

East Pilbara(S) had all apart from one of the road closures in the Pilbara in 2008. The Marble Bar Road overall had 31 of the 45 road closures in the shire, with Ripon Hills Road contributing the remaining 14 days.
