Registered vehicle types
Registered passenger and light commercial vehicles in East Pilbara(S) increased steadily between 2001 and 2008.
The number of registered rigid trucks in East Pilbara(S) rose significantly between 2001 and 2007, with the steady figures shown between 2007 and 2008.
The number of registered caravans rose between 2001 and 2006 in East Pilbara(S), before showing a small fall in 2007, before increasing back to 2006 figures in 2008. This fall in registered caravans goes against the trend across all other Shires within the Pilbara during this period.

The number of vehicles in East Pilbara(S) as a proportion of vehicles to people (ERP - aged 17 and above) between 2001 and 2007 fluctuated for all vehicle types. Passenger vehicles fell to a low point in 2003, before showing steady growth. Both rigid trucks and articulated trucks increased in numbers during the period however as a proportion of trucks to people both decreased. East Pilbara(S) had the lowest proportion of passenger vehicles to people across the whole of the Pilbara between 2001 and 2007.

Traffic flow information by vehicle type
The proportion of heavy vehicle traffic in East Pilbara(S) was dramatically higher than any other region in the Pilbara, with a large proportion of long vehicles and road trains on Marble Bar Road, East of Lalla Rook Road. Despite the high proportion of heavier vehicles, light vehicles form the majority of traffic on Marble Bar Rd in 2008.
