East Pilbara(S) has seen an increase in apprenticeships and traineeships commencing between 2001 and 2007, with encouraging highs in 2008.

 

The number of apprenticeships and traineeships completed is directly related to the number commenced, with traineeships normally lasting 12 months and apprenticeship training normally three or four years, depending on the type. Therefore the number of completed apprenticeships in 2008 is linked to the number of commenced apprenticeships in 2005.

 

Traineeships which commenced between 2001 & 2007 and completed between 2002 & 2008 equate to fewer than 57% completion rate. This rate is equally distributed across all industries.

 

  

Apprenticeships in metals, manufacturing and services were the most common in East Pilbara(S) with a steady increase of commenced apprenticeships since 2002.

 

  

Most noticeable is the large increase in the mining industry traineeships in 2006 from eight enrolments in 2005 to 56 in 2006. The second most popular traineeship in East Pilbara(S) is for finance, property and business services.
