Unemployment and participation rates for ages 15 – 19 years

Unemployment levels have shown falls in all shires across the Pilbara, with the unemployment rate falling from 14.7% in 1996 to 8.4% ten years later. The percentage of 15-19 year olds participating in the labour force has fluctuated over this ten year period, falling to its lowest point in 2006. Coincidently, student retention rates for the region have increased in most senior years of compulsory education over 2006 and 2007.

Unemployment rates showed steady falls over the ten year period to 2006, from 5.4% in 1996 to 3.0% in 2006. Participation rates increased slightly from 1996 to 2001, before showing a significant drop in 2006.
