Number and value of building approvals

There were a total of 1948 new residential building approvals between 2000-01 and 2007-08 in the Pilbara averaging 243 per year. Roebourne(S) approved over 50% of all new residential building approvals across the Pilbara during this period. Of this number 86% of all residential approvals were for new houses.

The total value of all residential building approvals between 2000-01 and 2007-08 across the Pilbara increased significantly, especially in the two years to 2007-08. Roebourne(S) was consistently the highest dollar value for new houses since 2000-01. East Pilbara(S) showed a decrease in 2007-08, reflecting the decrease in the number of approvals.

The average cost of new residential bulding approvals between 2000-01 and 2007-08 increased significantly, to be above the $400k in 2006-07. In all cases the average cost of new building approvals fluctuated in individual Shires with large increases seen in 2006-07.
Number and value of alterations and additions to residential buildings
Surprisingly, there were few approvals for alterations or additions to buildings in the Pilbara between 2000-01 and 2007-08. The only exception was in the 2000-01 with Roebourne(S) approving eight applications to a value of just under $1million.
