The largest providers of rental accommodation between 1996 and 2006 fell into the other landlord category, and comprised of employers (government and non-government) and residential parks (caravan parks and marinas)

State housing authority accommodation was mostly found in the larger population centres of Port Hedland(T) and Roebourne(S). Port Hedland(T) saw a reduction in the number of state housing available between 1996 and 2006, while Roebourne(S) increased and in 2006 had substantially more state accommodation.

Number of households receiving employer based housing subsidies

 

While not specifically identifying the number of households receiving a subsidy, these statistics show the difference in the number of households rented from an employer.

Non-government employer rentals increased significantly in Ashburton(S), Roebourne(S) and East Pilbara(S) in 2006. Government employer sourced rental accommodation decreased in all Shires in 2006, except Ashburton(S) which displayed a 44% increase.

The proportion of dwellings occupied by the owner (including dwellings fully owned and being purchased) fell consistently over the ten years to 2006 in most shires, with the largest falls experienced between 2001 and 2006. The largest proportionate fall occured in Ashburton(S).

East Pilbara(S) was the only Shire that showed a rise in the average number of occupants per household, all other Shires displayed falls over the ten years to 2006.
