Proportion of registered boats per household

There was a significant increase in the number of registered recreational boats in the Pilbara between 1996 and 2008, at a rate of 150 extra boats or more a year. The only exception being in the year 2000, where only an additional 36 boats were registered in the Pilbara.

The increase between 1996 and 2008 was almost exclusively in the size range up to 7.5m long, which are considered of a trailer towing size.  The number of larger boats (requiring moorings) registered in the area showed an increase to a lesser extent.

When looking at the number of registered boats in relation to the size of the population, Roebourne(S) stands out as a boating community, possibly due to the appeal of the Dampier Archipelago out from Karratha.
