Number of caravan sites available for tourists

The Pilbara had over 60% of total caravan sites available for short-term tourists during the 2008 December quarter, of these Port Hedland(T) had the highest percentage of available sites with 65%. Port Hedland(T) also had the highest number of caravan sites with 877, with 576 of these available for tourist and short-term guests.
Of the 589 sites available in Roebourne(S), 380 were available for tourists, with the remaining sites taken by long-term or permanent guests. This was likely to be due to the continued high demand for housing in 2008 and the high rental costs making caravan park accommodation more attractive.

In the December quarter Port Hedland(T) had the most nights occupied with 39,270 followed by Roebourne(S) with 29,476.
Roebourne(S) had the highest occupancy rate for the 2008 December quarter with 54.4%, East Pilbara(S) had 53.2% and Port Hedland(T) had the lowest occupancy rate of 48.7%.
