Hospital separations by reason for hospitalisation

 

The largest increase in hospital separations between 2003 and 2008 has been for the category supplementary classifications, where the vast majority are cases of renal dialysis. Separations for injury and poisoning, complications of pregnancy and diseases of the digestive system have steadily increased between 2003 and 2008.

 Hospital separations for 0 – 4 year olds

The main hospitalisation diagnosis for children aged 0 to 4 years old in the Pilbara are diseases of the respiratory system, infectious diseases and injury and poisoning.

 

 

 

Between 2000 and 2008, diseases of the respiratory system have declined in all local government areas, apart from the East Pilbara(S) where the number of separations fluctuated year to year. 

 

The number of hospital separations for Infectious diseases in 0-4 year olds have fallen significantly in both Port Hedland(T) and Roebourne(S), while the shires of East Pilbara(S) and Ashburton(S) have remained at relatively constant levels.

 

Separations relating to injury and poisoning have remained relatively constant in each of the local government areas.

Number of disabled persons requiring assistance

 

While this information does not represent the number of disabled persons requiring assistance, it does display the level of service being provided.  It should be noted that some disabled people will be receiving more than one of the services listed in the table below.

 

The main type of assistance rendered across the Pilbara involves Community Support, which enables a disabled person to live in a non-institutional setting. There are also additional people across the Pilbara who spend time providing unpaid care, help or assistance to people with a disability, a long term illness or problems related to old age.
