Rental properties as a proportion of all properties

Port Hedland(T) had the lowest proportion of employer provided rental properties across the Pilbara between 1996 and 2006. State housing authority accommodation was proportionately comparable with that seen in Roebourne(S), a higher level than seen in the other Shires.

Government employer supplied rental accommodation dropped significantly in Port Hedland(T) between 2001 and 2006, while a reciprocal rise occured in Roebourne(S). The other employer supplied rental accommodation increased marginally over the five year period to 2006.

The average household size in Port Hedland(T) fell steadily from 2.9 people per household in 1996 to 2.8 in 2001, and 2.7 in 2006.
