Proportion of registered boats per household
There was a significant increase in the number of registered recreational boats in Roebourne(S) between 1995 and 2008, with the rate up to 100 extra boats or more a year from 2002.

The increase between 1995 and 2008 was almost exclusively in the size range up to 7.5m long, which are considered of a trailer towing size. The number of larger recreational boats (requiring moorings) registered in the area increased between 2006 and 2008. The region provides minimal moorings in Karratha, Dampier and Point Samson, as such the majority of boat owners choose the smaller manageable size, which also ensures in inclement weather such as cyclones, their investment can be securely protected.

When looking at the number of registered boats in relation to the size of the population, Roebourne(S) stands out as the major boating community within the Pilbara, with just over one boat registered for every 100 people in 2008.
