Student Retention Rates

The retention rate for Yr 8 is always 100% for all years because it is the base year for retention. In some years the retention rate exceeds 100% because there was a net increase in the number of students for that year.

For all school years retention rates showed slight increases, with only minor fluctuations between years, apart from 2007, which shows a distinct increase in Yr 10 and in 2008 in Yrs 11 & 12. In Yr 12 retention rates remained at a constant level between 40% and 50% before a six year high in 2008 (55%).

Student/Teacher Ratio

The government school student / teacher ratio dropped after 2001, due to a sharp increase in the number of teachers in the area. Roebourne(S) has the highest ratio of students to teachers in the Pilbara, however it also educates more students than any other Pilbara LGA.

The number of students remained relatively stable between 1999 and 2008, showing relatively small fluctuations in comparison to other shires in the Pilbara. The number of indigenous students has slowly increased since 1999 to a high of 701 students in 2008.
