Roebourne(S) has seen a steady rise in apprenticeships commenced in every year between 2001 and 2008. Traineeships commenced, peaked in 2004 with a slow downward trend following to 2008. Roebourne(S) has had more apprenticeship and traineeship commencements than any other shire in the Pilbara.

 

The number of apprenticeships and traineeships completed is directly related to the number commenced, with traineeships normally lasting 12 months and apprenticeships normally three or four years, depending on the type. Therefore the number of completed apprenticeships in 2008 is linked to the number of commenced apprenticeships in 2005.

 

The number of commenced traineeships peaked in 2004 however the number completed in 2005 indicated only 50% completed the training. Traineeships which commenced between 2001 & 2007 and were completed between 2002 & 2008 equate to a completion rate of less than 55%. This rate is equally distributed across all areas of training.

 

 

 

Overall the number of apprenticeships commenced has risen between 2001 to 2008. Metals, manufacturing and service apprenticeships have followed this trend, accounting for 51% of all apprenticeships commenced in Roebourne(S) with automotive apprenticeships comprising 15%.

 

 

 

Finance, property & business services is the most popular type of traineeship in the shire with 33%, compared to hospitality & tourism (13%) and mining, which only attracted 7%. Roebourne(S) is the only region in the Pilbara where the hospitality & tourism traineeships are so popular, with 76% of the total Pilbara enrolments for this field.
